●● equipper conference 2011 ●●

新年最初の報告の目玉は何と言っても、お祈りいただいていたequipper conference 2011（以下、ec11）です。

「今ここに生きる～私たちの中にある神の国」というテーマの下に、参加者達が御国を立て上げていくものとしてのアイデンティティを学ぶ時になりました。ハワイから黒田朔師（牧会おたすけマンミニストリー）、オハイオから杉田政志師（ダブリン日本語教会）、日本から大嶋重徳師（KGK）をお迎えし、神の国について一貫した学びのときを導いていただきました。参加者達の5泊6日の歩みを見ている中で、ただ、励ましを受けるだけでなく、チャレンジを受け、それぞれの決断をし、各地域に遣わされていった様子が見受けられました。各地域に戻ってからがecの本番です。どうぞ、参加された方々のことを覚えお祈りください。

今回、子どもや部分参加者を含めて300名ほどの参加者がありました。例年に比べ、日本からの参加者が少なく、そして、約半数が初参加と、割りと顔ぶれに大きな変化のあるecとなりました。今年はecのお休みの年なので、この中から多くの方々が次のecまでに日本に本帰国をしていくことになります。帰国者達が、ec11で与えられたネットワークを用い、適切な帰国準備とフォローアップを受けていくことができるようにお祈りください。また、クリスチャンが参加対象であるecですが、今回も13人のノンクリスチャンの参加者がありました。現時点で6名の方がクリスチャンになる決心、また洗礼を受ける決心をしたと聞いています。それぞれのクリスチャンとしての歩みのためにお祈りください。

佐伯良樹実行委員長の指揮の下、2回のecが行われました。どちらの年も、神さまが素晴らしいチームメンバーを備えてくださいました。皆、約10ヶ月間を仕事や学業と両立し、ec11のために労してくださいました。神さまが賜物を備えてくださり、彼らだからこそできる特別な関わり方を導いてくださいました。特別に、中心でec11を作ってくださった実行委員を覚え、お祈りください。2年間、大きな任務を果たしてくださった佐伯良樹協力主事の内にecの関わりを通して得た祝福が留まり続けるようにお祈りください。

2012年はUrbana12が開催されるため、ecはお休みになります。2013年、誰の指揮の下、どのような形でecが開催されるのかは、今の段階ではまだ分かっていません。ecのない今年は、今後のecを覚え、神さまの計画がなされるようにと祈るばかりです。関わる人が起こされて初めて、実際に行うことができます。ぜひ、関わる人が起こされるようにお祈りください。また、ec11の事後処理が継続して行われています。事後処理についても覚えてお祈りください。


●● 2012年の展望 ●●

以前よりお伝えしている通り、3回目となるAll Nations Returnees Conference (ANRC) 12が2012年11月22日～25日に静岡県掛川市で行われます。今年のJCFNの働きの中心はANRC12への取り組みとなります。またこの機会に、日本版WITとなるBBWIT（ブリッジビルダーWhatever It Takes。「ビビット」と呼びます。）キャンプを開催し、日本各地域で帰国者のフォローアップに関わるリーダー達（ブリッジビルダーと呼びます）を集めて、訓練される時を持つ計画でいます。ANRCの醍醐味は、カンファレンス当日のみでなく、各地域のネットワークが広げられ、それぞれの地域に帰ってから帰国者の受け皿が構築されていくところにあります。地域での帰国者ミニストリーの励ましとしてBBWITが用いられることを期待しています。アメリカではWITが2007年から開催され、多くのWIT卒業生達が日本に送り返されています。卒業生を巻き込んで、BBWITが行われていくことも願っています。どうぞ、この新しい試みのためにお祈りください。アメリカでのWITも今年の7月に行われる予定でいます。あわせてお祈りください。年間の細かい予定に関しては、3月に行われる年次日米合同主事会にて詰められる事になります。


●● 主事動向 ●●

ec11期間中、自由時間の合間、短い時間でしたが、参加していたJCFN主事・協力主事で集まることができました。普段はオンライン中心の関わりですが、実際に会い、話し、祈ることは、一段と大切な時間となりました。

先に書いたとおり、1月は日米それぞれ、ec11の事後処理、また2月のBBWITの準備に時間を費やしています。

BBWITに向けては、清水北米主事、中村総主事代行が日本に向かいます。旅と、日本での働きを覚え、お祈りください。

清水北米主事は2月、シアトルで行われるRJC（Reaching Japanese for Christ）でセミナーを担当する事になっています。サポートレイズが6月まで継続される事になりました。引き続き、お祈りください。

JCFN20周年の記念誌制作が継続されています。引き続きお祈りください。プロジェクトをまとめている尾関祐子主事のためにお祈りください。

日本事務所は今年も後藤満喜主事の一人体制が続きます。また、マーティン聖姉が事務員として働いてくださっています。日本事務所が守られるように、お祈りください。

アメリカ本部も新しい年になって事務的に忙しい次期に入ります。取りまとめる三木真智子事務主事を覚え、お祈りください。

●● equipper conference 2011 ●●

The highlight of this letter is, of course, the report from Equipper Conference 2011 (ec11 hereafter).

The theme of ec11 was: "Here I am ~ The Kingdom of God Within Us." The conferees learned about their identity as one who builds the Kingdom of God. Rev. Kuroda (Pastoral Handy man ministry, HI), Rev. Masashi Sugita (Dublin Japanese Church, OH), and Mr. Shigenori Oshima (KGK, Japan) spoke thoroughly about the Kingdom of God. Looking at conferees, I have noticed that they were not only encouraged by their time at ec11, but also were challenged, led to make a decision in the Lord, and sent out to where they are. Their real ec journey has just started. Please remember them in your prayers.

We had about 300 attendees including children and partial attendees. There were not as many people from Japan compared to previous years. About a half of the entire attendees were a first timers. We will not have ec this year, so many of these people will return to Japan by the next ec. We pray that the networking given at ec11 will be a good resource for the returnees so that they will have good preparation before their returns, and also have enough follow-up after their returns. Although ec focuses on Christians, we had thirteen non-Christian attendees, and we had a report that six of them decided to be Christians or to be baptized at this point. Please pray for their walk as Christians.

Under the leadership of Yoshiki Saeki, we had two ec conferences. God provided wonderful teams for both years. They sacrificed their time for ec for ten months alongside with their study or work. Go provided special gifts and abilities to them to make ec11 happen. Please especially pray for ec11 planning committee members. Also please pray for Yoshiki Saeki associate staff, who was in charge of leading this committee for last two years, so that the blessings through this role may maintain in him and his family.

We will not have ec this year since Urbana13 is held. It is still uncertain who is conducting ec13, and how would it be as well at this point. It would be the year to pray for God's vision for ec13. Without people, we cannot organize the ministry of ec. Please pray together with us that He may raise new people to be involved in this. ec11 follow-up is still going on. Please pray about the follow-up as well.


●● JCFN's 2012 ●●

As we have been announcing, there will be 3rd All Nations Returnees Conference (ANRC) 12 held in November 22-25, 2012 in Kakegawa, Shizuoka. JCFN's ministry will be focusing on ANRC12 this year. Taking this timing as an opportunity, we will have our first WIT in Japan called BBWIT (Bridge Builder Whatever It Takes, pronounced as "bibitt") leadership training camp to gather regional leaders (we call them "bridge builders") who are involved in following up on returnees in different regions of Japan. The highlights of ANRC are the experiences not only at the conference site, but also in the local regions which bring new networks of regions to follow up new returnees. We are expecting that BBWIT will be the place to encourage those regional leaders of returnee ministries. In the US, WIT was born in the year or 2007 and many WIT graduates are now sent back to Japan. We are also hoping WIT graduates would join in BBWIT project. Please pray for this new movement. WIT in US will be held in July as well, so please remember this together with BBWIT. Upcoming detailed schedule for 2012 will be discussed at annual joint staff meeting in March.


●● Staff Updates ●●

During ec11, we had a privilege to get together with JCFN staff and associate staff. Usually, we only have chances to meet online, so it was such a neat time to chill and pray together.

As I wrote previously, in January we use our time mostly for following up ec11 and preparation for BBWIT.

For BBWIT, Setsu Shimizu (US staff) and Chihiro Nakamura (Interim International Director) will be traveling to Japan. Please pray for our trip and ministries in Japan.

Setsu will also visit Seattle to speak at seminars of RJC (Reaching Japanese for Christ) held in Feb. Her support-raising will continue until June. Please continue to pray for her.

JCFN's 20th anniversary booklet project is still in development. Please continue to pray for this project, and for Yuko Ozeki (US staff), who is in charge of this.

Maki Goto (Japan staff) is managing Japan office by himself this year as well. Also, Hijiri Martin part-time office worker is at Japan office. Please pray for Japan office work and situation.

Getting in this new year, the US headquarters will enter busy season in administrative work. Please pray for Machiko Miki (US office staff) who is in charge of administrative work.

信仰は望んでいる事がらを保証し、目に見えないものを確信させるものです。

2011年、最初に書いたニュースレターに去年の展望が書かれていました。

＝＝＝＝＝

「わたしのもとに来て、わたしのことばを聞き、それを行なう人たちがどんな人に似ているか、あなたがたに示しましょう。その人は、地面を深く掘り下げ、岩の上に土台を据えて、それから家を建てた人に似ています。洪水になり、川の水がその家に押し寄せたときも、しっかり建てられていたから、びくともしませんでした。」ルカ6：47-48

「地面を深く掘り下げ」、「土台を据えて」歩むことが、これからの変化の年、私にとってこれまでよりも増して必要不可欠なことであると感じました。ec講師のひとりがこのように言っていました。「想定外のことが起こるときに、私たちの本当の姿が分かる。」それを受けて、ec中に担当した帰国者セミナーの中で、「帰国そのものが想定外のこと。想定外のことが起こる時こそ成長の時です！」と伝えました。この1年、想定外のことが起こることが見込まれます。自分の伝えたことがそのまま返ってくるような思いです。2011年、地面を深く掘り下げ、土台を据えて、成長する時として期待して歩んでいきたいと思います。

そのときはもちろん、日本の地震のことはまったく想像もしていないことでした。

このとき、私が「変化」として思い描いていたことは、JCFNの人事や働きでの変化。
でも、きっかけはこの「変化」に対するものだったとしても、神さまはどのような「変化」に対しても、同じ真理を教えてくださっているのだろうと振り返ると思わせられる今日この頃です。


静まって祈っていた時、今年は「変化」の中から、「信仰の一歩」をとる1年になるような思いがしました。
それが、一体なんであるのか、今はまったく分かりませんが、大きな決断であれ、小さな決断であれ、どんなのときにも忠実な信仰の一歩を踏んで行きたいと思う新年のスタートです。

今、アメリカ本部は、いよいよ来週にと近づいてきたequipper conference 11の準備で大賑わいになってきました。準備、そして、修養会当日を覚え、お祈りください。今のところ、例年よりも申込者数が少ないですが、初めてecに参加される人たちの名前を多く目にしています。アメリカ国内でのネットワークが広げられ、帰国者たちが帰国前に整えられることができる環境が益々広がっていくようにお祈りください。また、日本での繋がり、帰国後に必要な関係作りがecの場所を通して構築されていくようにお祈りください。

私自身は、帰国者セミナーと賜物に関するワークショップを担当する事になっています。神さまが私を通してお語りになりたいこと、励ましたいこと、チャレンジしたいことを余すことなく伝えることができるように、お祈りください。最後の準備をつめています。準備のためにもぜひお祈りください。
そして、この過ぎし１年間も、継続的に働きを覚えてくださり、支え、励ましてくださったことを心から感謝します。特にいろいろな変化を通ったこの１年は、祈りの力なくしては乗り切ることができなかった１年だと思います。共に、働きに加わってくださり、本当に感謝します。今回のたよりでは、JCFNの働き以外のところでこの数ヶ月間何が起きているのか、また、１年間を振り返るときを持ちたいと思います。


■地域での働きの広がり■□

JCFNのオフィスがロングビーチからアーバインに引っ越ししてから1年少し、私自身も住まいをコスタメサに移してから半年経ったところで、地域での働きに動きがありました。年初めから属するべき教会を祈りつつ、ひとつの教会に集い、そこでの日本人ミニストリーでの可能性を探っていましたが、なかなか開かれていかない状況が続いていました。それが、9月に入ってから一転、神さまが人との繋がり与えてくださり、JCFNのオフィスの場所を借りている、Newsong Church内での新しいミニストリーの可能性が広がっていきました。近くにUCアーバイン（UCI）という大学があり、そこの大学生達が多く、教会にいます。彼ら（アメリカ人）の内に留学生（特に日本人学生）対して重荷を持つ人達が起こされ、その学生達との出会いがありました。最初はクリスチャン学生たちと集まり、祈り、実際にどのように留学生と伝道バイブルスタディをしたらよいのかを学びました。そして、留学生スモールグループを週に1回行うことが決まりました。

いざ、9月末UCIの新年度が始まり、蓋を開けてみたら、UCIへ交換留学で来ている日本人学生、そして、UCI前にある語学学校で学んでいる多くの日本人学生との繋がりが生まれました。スモールグループが始まってから、わずか3ヶ月ですが、神さまが働かれるとしか言いようのない展開を体験しています。最初は「アメリカ人の友達を作りたい」「英語を話す機会が欲しい」という思いから、バイブルスタディに参加するようになり、そのうち、聖書に書かれていることに興味を持ったり、バイブルスタディに参加しているクリスチャンたちの信じているものは何だろうと思ったりと個人的興味につながってきているようです。わずか3ヶ月ですが、すでに全員が毎回続けてという訳ではないですが、10人以上の日本人学生たちが参加するようになりました。また、多くの語学学生は短期滞在でアーバインにいます。その短い期間にまかされた働きをしていくことができるように、関係を作っていくことができるようにぜひお祈りください。そして願わくは救われる学生たちが起こされるようにお祈りください。関わるアメリカ人学生のたちのためにもお祈りください。


□1年を振り返って□■

繰り返しになりますが、1年間、働きを覚えてくださりありがとうございます。3月11日の日本での震災を通して、持っているものが一瞬にして無くなったり、変化したりしてしまうということを体験した日本をアメリカの地から、ただ祈ることを通してのみ思い、見てきました。私に、何ができるのだろうと考えた日々を過ごしました。神さまの思いを知りたいと祈りました。そして、JCFN内でも大きな変化を通りました。私には経験も力量も何もないのに、これまで思いもよらなかったような「総主事代行」というリーダーの立場に立つことになりました。神さまの哀れみだけでその立場に立たせていただいている数ヶ月を過ごしています。人知では到底測ることのできないことばかりの中で、それにまさる神さまの存在と具体的な導きを体験させられています。

何も思い煩わないで、あらゆるばあいに、感謝をもってささげる祈りと願いによって、あなたがたの願い事を神に知っていただきなさい。そうすれば、人のすべての考えにまさる神の平安が、あなたがたの心と思いをキリスト・イエスにあって守ってくれます。（ピリピ4：6-7）

私は神ではなく、人間であり、ただ、唯一の全知全能の神さまによってのみ生きることができるものです。神さまを神さまとして認め、歩んでいくことを学ばせられた1年でした。基本的なことですが、いつもそこに立ち返っていきたいです。

このクリスマスの季節、私たちのために救い主というギフトをお送りくださった神さまの愛と平安が皆さまの上に注がれますようにお祈りします。そして、新しい1年の上にも祝福と確かな導きがそれぞれにありますようにお祈りします。


■今後のちひろの動き■□

まずは、ec11に向けて今はまっしぐらですが、年が明け、2012年には日本での帰国者ミニストリーに関わる人たちを対象にしたリーダーシップトレーニングキャンプを計画しています。2012年、ecはありませんが、第3回目となるANRC（All Nations Returnees Conference）が11月に静岡で開催されることに向け、年間スケジュールが計画されていくことになります。具体的な計画が出てきたらまたお伝えしますが、日本に行く頻度が増える年になると思います。

Along with holiday wishes, I would like to report my ministry. Since June, I have taken the position as the JCFN Interim International Director, and have been updating JCFN members with a ministry report periodically. It is posted on my personal blog as well, so please take a look at the website to find out what is new at JCFN.

Now at JCFN US headquarters, we are spending all of our time preparing for equipper conference 11 coming up this month. Please pray for the preparation and the conference itself. It seems like we do not have much conferees registered like previous years and instead notice more first timers. Please pray that ec would be the place for returnees to network within the States so that they may be equipped before their returns. Please pray also for them to have connection with friends from their hometown in Japan so that they have place to be followed-up after their returns.

Speaking of myself at ec, I will be teaching at the Returnee Seminar and hold a workshop for "Giftedness (spiritual gifts)." Please pray that God may be speaking through me to encourage and challenge the conferees. Please pray for the final preparation for them.
Thank you so much for your prayers, support, and encouragement throughout the year. It meant a lot to me. Without your support, I could not make the year fruitful in ministry. Here, I would like to report what is taken place in my life besides JCFN ministry and my reflection on this year.


■Local Ministry■□

In September, a little over a year since JCFN moved from Long Beach to Irvine and half a year since I moved my residence to Costa Mesa, there have been changes for local ministry. At the beginning of this year, I was attending an English-speaking church to pray about whether it would be a church that I can belong to and be involved in Japanese ministry in that church. However, I could not find good opportunities to move forward. But the situation changed in September. God gave us connections with several people who have a heart for the Japanese at Newsong Church, where JCFN is renting office space. It has opened a new opportunity for ministry. The UCI (University of California, Irvine) campus is near the church, and quite a few university students are involved in college ministry at Newsong. Several students (American) have heart for internationals (especially for Japanese international students), and we had a chance to meet them. At first, we met weekly with Christian students to pray about what would happen. Then, we decided to start a weekly small group for international students.

Interesting things happened when UCI's new quarter began at the end of September. We had connections with not only Japanese exchange students to UCI but also language school students. The language school is located right across the UCI campus. It has been only three months since its start, but we witness God's mighty hands on this small group. Most of those Japanese students come to the small group to make American friends and to learn English with them. But as they are spending time with American Christian friends at the Bible study, they began to think of what their American friends are believing and want to know more about the Bible. Within just three months, more than 10 Japanese students have attended the small group, although not every student continues to attend. Most of the language students stay for short-term in Irvine. Please pray that we can do whatever God entrusts us with for them in their short-term stay, and build a good relationship with them. Please also pray that they may make a decision to receive Christ's salvation. Lastly, pray for those American students serving the internationals.


□Reflection on 2011 □■

Again, thank you very much for your support for the ministry this year. I was only able to pray from the US, as I was seeing Japan completely changed after the Earthquake. I realized that what we have could be gone or changed in an instant. I was thinking of what I can do for this situation. I was praying to know what God's plan. Also, JCFN had been through big changes in the situation. Without proper experiences or abilities, I was appointed to be the Interim International Director of JCFN. I have been spending the past few months experiencing God's mercy. Only God can guide us in a situation of what we have never imagined before.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7)

I am NOT God, but just a human. Only the Omnipotent God is the source for my life. What I learned this year was to live by recognizing God as God in any circumstances. It might be something very basic, but I would like to always come back to this truth.

May God bless you during this season of Christmas with the love and peace of God, who sent us the wonderful gift, the Savior to the Earth. I also pray for His blessings and guidance for this coming new year.


□What's Going on with Chihiro□■

Currently, ec11 is the center of our ministry. In the beginning of 2012, we are planning to have leadership training camp for those who are involved in follow-up ministries in Japan. We will not have ec during 2012, but there will be 3rd ANRC (All Nations Returnees Conference) in November. Most of the JCFN ministry next year will be related to ANRC12. The specific planning for next year has not yet been made, but it seems like I would have several chances to visit Japan.

2009、10年に日本で開催されたAll Nations Returnees Conferenceを皮切りに、日本各地域で帰国者受け入れミニストリーが始まったということはこれまでにもお伝えしてきましたが、秋はその修養会が各地で開催される時となりました。関西と東北で行われた修養会を報告します。

Vine Conference（All Nations Returnees関西）
9月下旬、大阪にて、Vine Conferenceが開催されました。ANRC09でに集められた関西の帰国者達が、ANR関西という帰国者集会を発足（http://www.anrkansai.org）、ANRC10で再び集まった時に、修養会を行うこと決め、実現に至りました。世界各国からの帰国者達、約150名の参加がありました。関西で帰国者の修養会が行われたのは約10年前。それ以来の新しい帰国者達による手作り間溢れる修養会となりました。修養会の名前の通り、主に繋がることを学んだ時となったようです。引き続き、関西にいる帰国者達を覚え、お祈りください。

RIMキャンプ（Returnees in みちのく）
10月上旬、東北では2回目となるRIMキャンプが開かれました。3月の東北での大震災後、このようなときだからこそ共に集まろうと、キャンプが行われました。応援のために東北外から駆けつけた人たち、子ども達も含め、50名ほどの参加者がありました。RIMもANR関西と同じように、ANRC09で産声をあげ、東北地域での帰国者受け皿として、この2年間大きな働きを担ってきました。今回の震災を受けて、この受け皿が横のつながりを励ますものとして用いられた様子を聞き、神様がその土台を先に用意してくださったのだと感じました。東北を訪ねた方々より、まだまだ、多くの必要を覚えているということを聞いています。RIMでの横のつながりがこれからの必要のためにも、広く、深く、用いられていくように続けて祈ります。東北外から駆けつけた人たちの中には、東北に移住し、復興のために神様が召してくださっている方々もいるということです。帰国者達が神様の召しに応えていけるように、心を合わせてお祈りください。


●● JxJ WIT ●●

10月下旬、シアトルで行われているミニストリー「JxJ」のに関わるスタッフのためのリーダーシップトレーニングが行われました。その名も「JxJ WIT」。毎夏、カリフォルニア州で行っているWIT（Whatever It Takes）キャンプの地域版です。「十字架にならうリーダーシップ」として、縦の関係（神様との関係）と横の関係（兄弟姉妹との関係）の両方向から、リーダーシップの大切さを学んでいきました。カリフォルニアから白岩マーク協力主事と共に訪問してきました。JxJ WITの準備に関わってくれたのは、WIT卒業生です。ここでも、WITの実を見ることができ感謝でした。総勢24名の参加者があり、今一度立ち止まり、神様との関係、与えられている仲間との関係を振り返る良い機会になりました。また、この機会をもって、JxJが正式にJCFNの地域集会という位置づけでミニストリーが展開していく事になりました。良いサポートをし続けることができるようにと願います。具体的にこれからの歩みに、学んだことを取り入れ続けることができるようにお祈りください！


●● 新主事研修 ●●

北米本部では、主事たちが旅を終え、またビザが無事に下りた三木事務主事を迎え、久々に4人が勢揃いしました。この機会に、11月初め、新主事研修と題して、主事同士のリーダーシップスタイルを知り、チームビルディングについて学び、改めてJCFNのミッションや大切しているところを確認する時を持ちました。新主事を歓迎する時としてだけでなく、年末に向けて更に忙しくなる前のほっと一息入れる時としても、よい時となりました。どうぞ、新しい体制での北米本部のためにお祈りください。日本事務所では一人体制が続いています。そちらも覚え、お祈りください。このように仲間が与えられている事に感謝します！


●● 主事動向 ●●

清水摂主事は長らくの出張の旅を終え、11月2日にアメリカに戻ってきました。しばらく、アメリカの地でのサポートレイズの時間になります。引き続き、お祈りください。

三木事務主事は、無事に10月18日渡米することができました。お祈りに覚えてくださり、ありがとうございました。

equipper conferenceの準備がラストスパートに入りました。11月2週目、実行委員達がCAに集まり、最後の詰めを行いました。主事、協力主事もecで自分の担当分野での準備に専念する時になってきました。引き続き、指揮を取っている実行委員長の佐伯良樹協力主事のためにお祈りください。

JCFN20周年の記念誌を準備のために、引き続きお祈りください。プロジェクトをまとめている尾関祐子主事のためにお祈りください。

●●Expansion of Returnee Ministry in Japan●●

We have been reporting that returnee ministries in different areas in Japan were created after the All Nations Returnees Conference held in 2009 and 2010 in Japan. During this Fall, some regional retreats were held. Here are the reports from Kansai and Tohoku:

Vine Conference (All Nations Returnees Kansai)
At the end of September, the Vine Conference was held in Osaka. Those who were attending ANRC09 from Kansai area formed a returnee fellowship called ANRKansai (http://www.anrkansai.org). When they were united at ANRC10, they decided to hold a retreat, which took place this September. There were about 150 attendees who returned from all over the world. It has been almost ten years since the returnee retreat was last held. Vine Conference was filled with the sense of being "hand-made" by new returnees. As its name suggests, it became the place to learn to abide in the Lord. Please continue to pray for the returnees in Kansai area.

RIM Camp (Returnees in Michinoku)

At the beginning of October, 2nd RIM Camp was held in the Tohoku area. They have decided to meet in this special occasion after the disaster of Tohoku in March. There were about fifty people who attended, including those who support Tohoku from other regions. There were children, as well. RIM was also established by those who were at ANRC09. It has been a great place to follow up returnees for the past two years. This network now worked to encourage one another in Tohoku after the earthquake. I believe that God has founded the horizontal connection among the Tohoku people for this special situation before hand. According to the reports of those who visited Tohoku, there are still so many needs in the area. I pray that this network of RIM would help to meet those needs deeply and widely. Some of those who attended from outside of Tohoku decided to reside in Tohoku to continue joining relief work by responding the call from God. Please pray that those who returned may listen and respond to God's calling.


●● JxJ WIT ●●

At the end of October, the one-day training event for the Seattle ministry leadership, JxJ was held. It was called "JxJ WIT." WIT (Whatever It Takes) leadership camp is held every Summer in California, and JxJ WIT was the regional training camp. The focus of the training was "Cross-Centered Leadership" and we learned leadership from the vertical relationship with God and horizontal relationship with brothers and sisters. I visited Seattle along with Mark Shiraiwa, an associate staff from California. WIT graduates were involved in the preparation for JxJ WIT. I was grateful to witness the fruit of WIT. 24 JxJ core members attended the training, and had time to reflect on their relationship with God and other fellows. JxJ is now officially adopted as a JCFN regional meeting. Please pray that JCFN can continue to support JxJ ministry. Please also pray for those who were at JxJ WIT, so that they can apply what they learned in their spiritual journey.


●● New Staff Training ●●

At the US Headquarters, some staff members have returned from their trips. Machiko Miki, on e of the office staff, safely arrived in the US with her visa. Now, all four staff members have finally gathered. So we have decided to sit together in order to get to know each others' leadership style, team building, and to go over JCFN's mission and values. It became the time of not only welcoming a new staff member, but also resting before getting in the busy season. Please pray for new US team dynamics. Please pray also for Japan office, since the one-man office situation is still going on. We are blessed with these teammates!


●● Staff Updates ●●

Setsu Shimizu (US Staff) finished her long trip and returned to the US on November 2nd. She is entering her support raising mainly in the US from now on. Please remember her in your prayer.

Machiko Miki (US Office Staff) flew to the US on October 18th, and began her work. Thank you very much for your prayers.

We are getting into final preparation for Equipper Conference. In the 2nd week of November, EC committee members got together in California, and had good discussions on planning the conference. JCFN staff and associate staff members will also use our time for our roles at EC. Please continue to pray for Yoshiki Saeki (US Associate Staff), who is directing this.

Please pray for 20th anniversary booklet project, and for Yuko Ozeki (US Staff) who is organizing it.

主の御名を賛美します。各地域、夏から秋へと季節が変わって行っている頃だと思います。それに伴い、アメリカでも日本でも、ハリケーンや台風の被害のニュースを耳にしています。それぞれの被害がひどくなることのないようにと祈ります。皆様もご自愛くださいますように。


●● シアトルでの働き ●●

シアトルではJxJ（Japanese x Jesus：「ジェイジェイ」と呼びます。）という日本人学生伝道ミニストリーがあります。約10 ヶ月間の研修のために東京と大阪から旅行関係の専門学校の学生達がやってきます。また他のビジネスの学校からも短期研修生がやってきます。特に、シアトルの地で救われた日本人学生、また若い社会人を中心に2006 年にJxJ ミニストリーが始まり、留学生ミニストリーを
している方々や地域の日本人教会と協力しながら、継続されています。JCFN では特に、教会直属でないこのJxJの働きに重荷を感じ、毎月リーダーと連絡を取りながらミニストリーの様子を聞き、帰国者の把握をしています。ここ数年の流れとして、夏～秋頃に救われ、JｘJ スタッフとして奉仕し、年が明けて2 月頃に帰国するという動きがあります。この夏も、7 月に1 人、そして8 月に行われた伝道
フォーカスのキャンプを通じ4 人の学生が救いに導かれました。その内の数人がこれからJxJ のスタッフとして関わることになったそうです。残された滞在の中での弟子訓練のために、また、年末のec に参加できるようにと祈ります。10 月末にはJxJ スタッフを対象に地域版WIT（リーダーシップ訓練）が行われる予定です。益々、シアトルでの福音宣教の働きが祝福されるように祈ります。


●● 合同主事会レビュー ●●

9 月上旬、今一度、日米のスタッフが集まり、3 月に行われた年次合同主事会後の振り返りのときを持ちました。合同主事会直後に東日本大震災が起こり、当初計画していたものの中で、何を進め、何を止め、どのように変更していくことが求められているのかを振り返りつつ検討しました。話し合いを通じて、神様がいかに20 年間の歩みを誠実に導いてくださったのかを感じました。また、地域的に広がりを見せているJCFN ですが、改めて、JCFN のミニストリーは帰国者に特化したミニストリーであるということ、神様が具体的な召しを与えてくださっている団体であるということを確認するひと時となりました。今年度、残りの時間も、神様に忠実に歩んでいくことが出来るようにお祈りください。


●● 祈りの月間 ●●

10 月はJCFN にとって、祈りの月間です。JCFN の働きを具体的に覚え、心を合わせて祈るときです。

あなたがたのうちに良い働きを始められた方は、キリスト・イエスの日が来るまでにそれを完成させてくださることを私は堅く信じているのです。ピリピ1:6

このみ言葉にあるように、この良い働きを始められた方、神ご自身がこれを進め、継続させ、主の業を完成させてくださることを信じ、会員の方々と共に祈っていきたいと思っています。ぜひ、このレターを読まれている方々にも、この祈りの輪に加わっていただけたらと思います。

ここでは、4 週目の祈祷課題をお分かちします。

COMMISSION：神の国の拡大

「しかし、あなたがたは、選ばれた種族、王である祭司、聖なる国民、神の所有とされた民です。それは、あなたがたを、やみの中から、ご自分の驚くべき光の中に招いてくださった方のすばらしいみわざを、あなたがたが宣べ伝えるためなのです。」(1 ペテロ2:9)

JCFN の働きは主の御名がほめたたえられるため、つまり、世界宣教のためです。私達が救われたのは、その救いを宣べ伝えるためです。そのために、帰国者フォローアップが祝福され、帰国する者も海外にいる者も、日本人もそうでない者も、宣教のため用いられるように祈りましょう。主が日本を、そして世界を救って下さるように祈りましょう。

●日本のリバイバルのために。
●東北の人々のために、震災復興のために。
●私が隣人に福音をつたえることができるように。
●日本に帰国した仲間達全員が、キリスト者として成長し、置かれている場所で証人として用いられるように。


●● 主事動向 ●●

清水摂主事は9 月中旬より日本に赴き、関西で行われたAll Nations Returnees 関西の初の修養会に参加、その後愛知、東京を訪問、第2 回RIM（Returnees in みちのく）カンファレンスに参加し、アメリカに帰国します。日本巡回の目的の中に、サポートレイズも含まれています。どうぞ、よい出会いが与えられ、具体的な形でのサポートを得ていくことができるようにお祈りください。そして、移動が続く巡回ですので、体調、霊性が守られて、旅を終えることができるようにお祈りください。アメリカ帰国後すぐに、OMFの会議でイギリス・ロンドンに向かう事になっています。続く旅のためにお祈りください。

三木事務主事のビザのためにお祈りありがとうございました。移民局からビザの申請が受理され、米国大使館で面接を受け、ビザが正式な形で発行されることになりました。これから、渡米準備、10 月中旬の渡米をと祈っているところです。全ての処理が滞りなく進むことができるように続けてお祈りください。また、アメリカに戻ってからの事務主事としての仕事にスムーズに順応していくことができるようにお祈りください。

11 月からは、equipper conference の準備が中心になってきます。特に本部では、地域日本人教会を訪問し、ecを祈りに覚えていただけるように、参加者を送っていただけるように、また、1 人でも多くの学生達が参加できるように奨学金のための献金を捧げていただけるように、お伝えする時を持っていきます。どうぞ、全ての必要が満たされるようにお祈りください。また、実行委員長の佐伯良樹
協力主事のためにお祈りください。

Now is the time when, everywhere, Summer is changing to Autumn. Along with this, we hear news of hurricanes, and typhoons and their disasters as well. I pray that the change of seasons will not bring more difficulties. Please take good care of yourselves.


●● God's Work in Seattle ●●

In Seattle, there is a ministry called JxJ (Japanese x Jesus), which reaches out to Japanese students. Every year, tourism major students from Tokyo and Osaka visit Seattle for 10 months for their training. Business major students also visit there for their study for a similar period of time. Those who became Christians in Seattle, including students and those graduated from school, had a passion to reach out to Japanese students and started the JxJ
ministry in 2006. International Student Ministries (like Talk Time), and local Japanese churches have been supporting this ministry. Since JxJ is an inter-denominational movement, and is not affiliated with one particular church, JCFN feels the burden to support this ministry, and has a monthly accountability call with ministry leaders for some years now. As we listen to them, we consult with what they do, and we identify and follow up with returnees. It has been common for short-time students to receive Christ during Summer or early Fall, become
involved with JxJ ministry, and return to Japan around February. This summer, one student
accepted Christ in July, and four more students accepted Christ during an evangelistic camp in August. We have heard that some of them decided to become JxJ staff during the rest of their stay. I pray that they may be discipled and be able to attend Equipper Conference in December. At the end of October, the regional WIT (leadership training meeting) will be held in Seattle focusing on JxJ staff. I pray for Japanese ministry held in Seattle to be blessed more and more.


●● Review from Joint Staff Meeting ●●

In the middle of September, all of the staff got together to reflect on the progress since the annual joint staff meeting held in March. Right after that meeting, the Japan Earthquake happened, and we had identified what to continue, stop, and rearrange as we reviewed the situation of ours and in Japan. Through this meeting, we recognized once again that God has been faithful in leading JCFN ministries for the past 20 years. We also recognize God's specific calling to ministry towards returnees although our relating regions have been expanded. Please keep JCFN in your prayers so that we may be faithful and obedient to God for rest of the fiscal year.


●● Month of Prayer ●●

October, 2011 is JCFN's Month of Prayer. It is a time for us to remember and pray for the ministries of JCFN.

"being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion
until the day of Christ Jesus." Philippians 1:6

Let us pray believing that God will complete the works He has begun, as it says in Philippians 1:6. I encourage those who are reading this letter to join in this circle of prayer.

Here I would like to post prayer requests from 4thweek of the Month of Prayer.

COMMISSION
"But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light" (1 Peter 2:9) JCFN exists to glorify God and to make Him known throughout the world. Our salvation is so that we share Christ with others. For the purposes of world evangelism, pray that followup ministries to be blessed and that those who are in/out of Japan will be used for mission. Pray that God will bring salvation to Japan and to the world.

- Pray for revival in Japan.
- Pray for Tohoku and people there.
- Pray for yourself that you will share the Gospel to your neighbors.
- Pray that EVERY returnee will grow in Christ and to share Christ with others.


◆◆ Staff Updates ◆◆
Setsu Shimizu is traveling to Japan since the middle of September. She attended the All Nations Returnees Kansai's 1st conference, visited Aichi, and stayed in Tokyo. Then, she attended the 2nd RIM (Returnees in Michinoku) Camp and will return to the States. The purpose of this trip includes support-raising. Please pray for divine appointment so that she may have supporters in certain ways. Please pray for physical and spiritual health during
this trip, for she has to travel around Japan. Right after her return to the States, she is heading to London, UK for an OMF conference. Please pray for her trip continuously.

Thank you very much for your continuous prayer for the visa situation for Machiko Miki, one of our office staff. Her visa has been approved by the Homeland Security and she was able to have it stamped after the interview at US Embassy in Tokyo. Please keep praying for her as she prepares to leave for the States by the end of October. Please also pray for her adjustment to the work in the States.

From November, we will be focusing on the final preparation for Equipper Conference. Especially at the US headquarters, we will be visiting local churches to ask to send their members, and for prayer and financial support so that more students receive scholarship to attend the conference. Please pray that enough funds for scholarship may be provided. Please pray also for ec11 director, Yoshiki Saeki, associate staff.

We are currently preparing to publish JCFN 20th anniversary booklet, and are in the process of gathering documents and placing them into translation. Please pray for Yuko Ozeki, who is
coordinating this project.

There is a year left until ANRC12. Publication will be finally starting and the website is about to launch. Early month in next year, online registration will start as well. Please pray for Maki Goto as he is putting together the website.

■WIT11■□

ここ数年、JCFNアメリカ側で力を入れているのはリーダーシップトレーニングです。究極的には、帰国前に経験したことのないことは、帰国後に実践することは難しいという考えの基に、帰国前に帰国者たちがリーダーとしての自覚をもち、訓練を受けていく機会を設けています。その代表的なものが、WIT（Whatever It Takes）リーダーシップキャンプです。私がJCFNスタッフに就任した年、2007年から始まり、今年で5回目を迎えました。今回のビジョンとして、「キリストに根ざし、神の愛に満ちたコミュニティを建て上げるリーダー」を掲げ、聖書が教えるリーダーの姿を学び、コミュニティ作りに必要なことを学ぶ機会になりました。

今回も、例年と同じように少人数、招待制で行われ、過去にWITに参加した、いわゆる「WIT卒業生」によって準備、実行された2泊3日のキャンプとなりました。初の試み、バイオラ大学を会場に、色々なハプニングがありつつも濃い3日間を過ごすことができました。中でも一番大きなハプニングは、借りていた教室のドアが急に開かなくなるという出来事。皆で夕食を終え、教室に戻り、警備員の方に施錠をはずしてもらったはずのドア・・・、何かがつかえてしまっているのか一向に開く気配がありません。教室に入ることができなければ予定していた学びをすることができないので、急きょ予定を変更。ドアの問題は警備員にお願いし、外の芝生で円になって座り、証大会が始まりました。お題は「どのようにしてクリスチャンになったのか」、リーダーたち（参加者のことをそのように呼びます！）がお互いを知る絶好の機会になりました。その後なぜか急にドアが開き、予定していたスケジュールを全体的に変更しながら、進められていきました。準備してきたものを神様に明け渡すこと、そして、その中で主の最善を認めていくことの大切さを目の当たりにした「ハプニング」となりました。

WIT11testimony.jpg3日間、神様が特にリーダーたちに語られたことは、「あなたがリーダーだよ」ということ。今回はリーダーになってまだ間もない人や、リーダーとしての自覚をこれから芽生えさせようとしているリーダーたちばかりだったので、この神様からの語りかけは、今後の歩みにとってとても重要なものであったと思います。実は、私自身にもこの語りかけは強く響くものがあり、特に、人事異動を受けてから、神様から来るこの励ましはとても大切なものとなりました。語りかけの一つとして、「あなたはヨシュアだよ」と神様が教えてくださり、前リーダー不在の中で、神様の約束ゆえに「おそれるな」と立てられたリーダーであるヨシュアの姿を通して、励ましを受けました。どうぞ続けてリーダーたちのためにお祈りください。

□Passing on～バトンタッチ□■

これまで、「3人の人の個人的成長に関わる」という思いの基に、メンタリング関係を紹介してきました。その中で、アメリカにいるときから関わってきたKちゃんとの関わりがこれまでとはまた違う形で終わりを迎えたので、そのことをお伝えします。Kちゃんはキャンパスミニストリーを通じてクリスチャンになりました。その後、同じキャンパスミニストリーでスタッフとして関わり、帰国前の1年間はリーダーとして関わっていました。そして、彼女がリーダーをしている時に、定期的に会うようになりました。昨年夏に日本に本帰国。帰国してからも定期的にスカイプを通してのメンタリングを続けていました。帰国してからの目標は、帰国後1年以内に、日本でメンター、もしくは個人的成長に関わってもらえる関係を見つけるということでした。そして、いよいよ1年がたとうというときに、定着した教会内でメンターを見つけることができたと伝えてくれました。8月を持って、Kちゃんとの2週間に1度のスカイプが終了しました。

Kちゃんとの最後のスカイプでメンタリングの1年間を振り返るときを持ちました。この振り返りのときは、彼女のためだけではなく、私自身が今後も人のメンタリングに関わっていく中で、参考にしたいと思い、どのようにメンタリングがKちゃんの歩みに用いられたのかを率直に聞いてみました。

まず、「帰国後、メンタリングを通してどのように助けられたのか」を聞いてみたところ、「信仰について話すことが助けになった」ということでした。特に、帰国してからはまだ教会を見つけられる前で、教会に行っていたとしても信仰について話す関係はまだ教会の中で築き上げられてないので、メンタリングの時間に「神様との関係はどうですか？」という問いかけに答えていたことが助けになっていたようです。自分と神様との関係についてこれまで以上に考えるようになったと話してくれました。

「帰国後の変化は？」という問いかけに関しては、帰国後の具体的な実について語ってくれました。帰国して半年経った頃に集う教会が決まり、教会の中で同年代の女性のスモールグループを始めました。アメリカでどのようにミニストリーに関わっていたかを教会内で話す機会があったときに、スモールグループを始めたいと祈っていた牧師婦人が「一緒に始めよう！」と声をかけてくれたそうです。それまでは20代女性の交わりは礼拝で会う程度だったものが、交わりを持つようになり、関係が築かれていき、将来的には共に御言葉を学ぶ時になっていくようにと願っているということでした。また、家族の救いのためにより祈るようになり、伝えていきたいとさらに思うようになったとも言っていました。家族や友達のために一緒に覚えて祈る人がいることはどんなに心強いことかと改めて思わされました。自分自身の変化を客観的に見ることができるのもメンタリングの醍醐味であると思います。

Kちゃんは8月から牧師夫人がメンターとして関わる事になり、定期的に会うようになりました。もしかしたら、牧師婦人にとっても「意識的にメンターになる」というのは初めての経験かもしれません。Kちゃんとの関わりが牧師婦人にとっても祝福となることを祈っています。最後に私から彼女に伝えたことは、「次はKちゃんが誰かのメンターになるんだよ！」ということです。私から牧師婦人にバトンが手渡されただけでなく、Kちゃんからも次の人へとバトンが手渡されていくことを願っています。Kちゃんとのメンタリング関係を導き、祝福してくださった神様をほめたたえます。どうぞ、Kちゃんの歩みのために続けてお祈りください。次に連絡を取る時が楽しみです！

■理事会報告と人事異動報告■□

5月24～26日、JCFN本部のあるカリフォルニア州アーバインにてJCFN年次理事会が行われました。アメリカ各地、日本から理事たちが集まり、3月に行われた合同主事会で話し合われたこと基に、昨年度を振り返り、これからの展望を話し合いました。合同主事会が開かれたのは東日本大震災が起きる一週間前のことで、震災を受けて、神様の御心とタイミングに依り頼むことの他ないということを痛感しながら、理事会での報告の時となりました。合同主事会、理事会で確認されたことは、2011年度のJCFNミニストリーのテーマとして「同労者のエンパワメント」を掲げるということでした。当初、震災のことを考えずに立てたテーマでしたが、このときだからこそ必要な志であるということを確認しました。そしてもう一つ、大きな変動として、人事異動がなされる事になりました。私自身にも大きく影響することで、このお便りを読む方にも覚え、ぜひ祈りに留めていただきたいと心から願っています。まず、JCFN理事会からの人事異動に関する報告全文を抜粋します。

主の尊い御名を心から賛美いたします。

皆様、いかがお過ごしでしょうか？

いつもJCFNとそのミニストリーである海外邦人宣教、また帰国者の働きのためにお祈り下さり、ご支援くださり、心から感謝申しあげます。そして東日本大震災で被災された多くの方々を覚え、主の祝福が豊かにもたらされるようにお祈りしております。

さて、去る5月24-26日にアメリカ本部において定期理事会が開催されました。理事会での重要な人事異動とこれからのJCFNのことをお知らせいたします。ぜひお祈りいただきたくお願い申し上げます。

6月1日をもちまして、OMFインターナショナルUS (以下、OMF)の人事労務政策が変わり、18年間に渡ってOMF宣教師としてJCFNに出向し、総主事として奉仕して参りました黒田摂が、その職務を降りることになりました。引き続きOMF宣教師を続けるために、新しい規定でのファンドレイズを満たす必要が出てまいりました。そこで理事会はOMFの政策変更を受け止め、OMF宣教師としての継続を第一に願い、12月末まで黒田主事には必要なサポートレイズを優先していただきます。

OMFのみならずJCFNにとっての大きな変化に対し、中村千尋主事に総主事職代行に任命しました。新しいリーダーシップの下、JCFNミニストリーが引き続き前進していくことを願っています。

今年、JCFNは多くの団体と個人の方々のお祈りと犠牲によって20周年を迎えることが出来ましたが、これを機会に皆様にぜひ、お伝えし、共に感謝をささげていただきたいことがございます。それはこれまでのJCFNに対するOMFの多大な貢献です。JCFN発足時には特にOMFの具体的なご支援がなければ、JCFNの今日はなかったと言っても過言ではありません。具体的には、JCFN初の事務所は、コロラド州デンバーにあるOMF本部の中に置かせていただきました。また献金の処理も当初はOMFを通して行い、OMF宣教師である黒田摂がJCFNへ100％出向という形で、JCFN最初のスタッフとして就任し、18年間奉仕をしてまいりました。JCFNとしては心から深い感謝をOMFへ表明するものです。

JCFNにとってこのような深いかかわりのあるOMFの労務変更により、上記の人事異動となった次第です。また、ちょうどこの時期に、黒田主事が清水政臣さんとの結婚に導かれました。主がこれからの人生を大いに祝福し、その後も引き続き帰国者ミニストリーに新しい形で関わって行くことができるように、引き続き黒田主事のサポートが満たされるようにお祈りください。

これまでもJCFNは、フィールドの必要に対して働き人の不足を常に抱えつつ歩んできておりますが、理事会・主事会ではこの異動を主が許された最善の機会であるととらえて、これまでと同じように神様の導きと備えをいただき、希望を持って前進して参ります。

最後になりましたが、今日も新しい希望を与えてくださる神様が、支援者・関係者の皆さま、特に東北の愛する方々の上に、また、日本と世界に散らされているJCFN会員の皆様の上に、豊かな祝福を与えてくださいますようにお祈りしています。

要約すると、これまでJCFN総主事として奉仕してこられた清水（旧姓：黒田）摂主事が、6月1日付でサポートレイズに専念するため、総主事の職務を辞任する事になりました。そのため、緊急の対策として、私が「総主事代行」としての職務を任命され、総主事業務を引き継ぐことになりましたことを報告します。


□人事異動を受けて□■

祈りに覚えてくださっている方々、ご支援くださっている方々に人事異動を受けての私自身の思いをお伝えしたいと思います。

以前より、変化の中を通ってきたJCFNの人事動向ですが、こんな大きな変化を通る事になるとは思いもよらないことでした。理事会中に、「私が総主事代行に！」という話を聞いたときには、「状況がそうなのだから、仕方がない･･･。」という思いが8割といった感じで引き受けました。しかしその後、祈り静まる中で聖書の物語の情景が浮かんできました。それは創世記29章に描かれている、ヤコブと義父となるラバンとの間で交わされる、ラバンの子ラケルとレアとの婚礼に関するやり取りの情景です。
ヤコブは自分の願いの前に、義父ラバンが仕向けた状況に頷き、ラバンの示す通りに、ラケルとの結婚のために全部で14年の年月をラバンのもとで仕えました。「状況がそうだから仕方がない・・・」という態度ではなく、「状況を許された神さまの前に、『はい』と従う」従順さを持っていたのです。その情景が浮かんだときに、ハッとさせられました。私がJCFN主事として神さまにお仕えすることを最初に決意した時に与えられたのも聖書の中の物語の情景でした。それは、まさに今回、浮かんできた情景の話の一世代前の話で、ヤコブの父イサクの結婚相手探しのために送られた使いと義兄ラバン（上に書いたラバンと同一人物）とのやり取りです。イサクの結婚相手となるリベカに出会う前に使いが祈った祈りと祈りの応えられ方、そして、祈りが応えられた後のリベカの兄ラバンと使いのやり取りそのものが、私がJCFNで働くことの決心を導いているものでした。

そのことを思い出したときに、今回の人事異動への経緯が「仕方のないもの」ではなく、神さまのご計画の内にあることで、私の取るべき行動は状況を良しとされた神さまに従うことであるということを思いました。御言葉で教えられてから、どんな時にも神さまに従順に従っていきたいと思いを新たにされました。

ぜひ、私が神さまの語りかけに従順に従い続けることができるようにお祈りください。そして私らしく、「総主事代行」としての任を果たしていくことができるようにお祈りください。また、ぜひ、清水摂主事のためにもお祈りください。総主事は辞任されますが、JCFN主事としての働きは続けていきます。年末までは当面、ミニストリーの最前線からは少し離れ、サポートレイズを中心に活動します。働きのための必要が全て満たされ、またミニストリーを中心とした活動に戻ることができるようにお祈りください。そして、変化を通るJCFNの働きのためにお祈りください。


■今後のちひろの動き■□

5月末のセントラルカンファレンス、6月半ばのec11実行委員会が守りと祝福の中行われました。アメリカの学校はすでに夏休みに入り、夏のイベント各地でなされています。JCFNでも7月のリーダーシップキャンプに向けての準備が進められています。関わる人たちにとって、よい、リソースでいることができるようにと願っています。ぜひお祈りください。

■Report from JCFN Board Meeting■□

On May 24-25, the Annual JCFN Board meeting was held in Irvine, CA. Board members from all over the United States and Japan gathered together to reflect on what was discussed during the annual joint staff meeting held in March, and to discuss what to expect for the coming years. It was a week before 3.11. The Tohoku earthquake happened when the annual joint staff meeting was being held. Thus, the situation around us changed and we were led to make arrangements on what we discussed back in March. However, what we need to do is to rely on God's timing and will in order for us to put His ministry forward. The theme of JCFN 2011 is to empower co-workers. This was made before 3.11, but it is still an important mindset for us to keep because of this situation in Japan. There was one another major issue covered during this Board meeting. That was regarding JCFN staff personnel change. It also affects my situation in the JCFN ministry, and I appreciate your prayers during this change. JCFN Members and Supporters,

Praise the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ!

How are you? We are so grateful to God for you who pray and support us for furthering His Kingdom through JCFN for Japanese living outside of Japan and for returnees. We also remember those who have been affected by the Tohoku Earthquake that our God of mercy would comfort and bless them.

Recently, we held our annual board meeting at JCFN's headquarters in Irvine, CA, May 24-26th. There were many things we discussed, but specifically, we would like to announce to you a major change regarding personnel and we would ask you to pray with us as we go through this transition.

Setsu Kuroda who has been, for 18 years seconded from OMF International (US) to serve full time at JCFN, and has been its International Director since 2005, will resign from that position due to the need to see her financial support increase. In order for her to continue to serve as an OMF missionary, she needs to trust God to raise her support to an acceptable level. We, as members of the JCFN Board of Directors, have accepted the change in OMF's policy (ie; all diaspora OMF members must be 100% supported by the end of 2011), and we have made a decision to release Setsu to do support raising (partnership development) as her top priority.
This is a big change for OMF and JCFN, and we have appointed Chihiro Nakamura as our Interim International Director. It is our hope that the ministry of JCFN will continue to move forward under new leadership.

This year we are celebrating JCFN's 20th anniversary, realizing that this has been made possible by many of you who have prayed and given sacrificially. For this special occasion, we have something that we want you to join with us in regarding prayers of thanksgiving. We give thanks and glory to God for OMF's support over the years and investment in JCFN's staff and ministries. When JCFN was first begun, without OMF's help and support, we could not have survived. OMF had leased to JCFN their first office space in their US headquarters building in Denver, Colorado. OMF helped us process donations, become a non-profit organization and set up a Board of Directors. Setsu Kuroda, an OMF missionary, was fully seconded to work with JCFN and became their very first staff and has been serving over 18 years, as mentioned above. We hope that can continue. JCFN is filled with gratitude towards OMF International.

Our personnel change is due to the personnel policy change of OMF, which has had such a rich relationship and history with JCFN. Also, at this time, Setsu is getting married to Masaomi Shimizu. Please pray for her that her support needs will be completely met, and that she can continue to serve in returnee ministry in fresh and invigorating ways.
We always face challenges due to a lack of volunteers, staff, and personnel. However, staff and board members are very grateful to God who is purposing this change so that we can learn to trust Him more and see His provision in the days ahead, and for this we are filled with much hope.

Lastly, we pray for all of you who are members and friends of JCFN, who support this ministry in Japan and around the world, and especially for those in the Tohoku area that God's richest blessings will be upon them. His hope and His faithfulness are new every morning!

In summary, Setsu Kuroda Shimizu, who took a role of JCFN International Director for the past several years, resigned from that position in order for her to concentrate on raising support starting June 1st. Due to this resignation, I was appointed to be the "interim" International Director and take director duties starting June 1st.


□What I feel after the Personnel Change□■

I would like to share what I am feeling right now after I have been through this personnel change with those who have been my great supporters.

This change was what I was NOT expecting to happen, although JCFN has been going rough times in terms of our personnel issues. The first impression hearing that I would become an interim International Director was that there would be no other way due to this situation. Then, I accepted the offer with that impression. However as I took a time of prayer, the story for the Scripture came to my mind. It was the scene of Genesis chapter 29 describing the conversation between Jacob and his father-in-law to be, Laban regarding the marriage with Rachel and Leah.

Jacob served Laban for total fourteen years in order to get married to Rachel in spite of his desire. He took the attitude not because there was no way other than that, but because he recognized God's intervention in this situation. When this story came to my mind, I was reminded of the different Bible story when I was led to decide becoming a JCFN staff member. It is the story of one generation prior to the story of Rachel and Jacon, the story of conversation between Laban (same Laban written above) and the servant sent to find Isaac's wife (Isaac is the father of Jacob). I was led to be a JCFN staff member by learning from what the servant prayed, how the prayer was answered, and how the servant responded to the answered prayer including the correspondence to Laban.

When I was reminded of these two stories, the pathway of this personnel change is not just something, "there is no other way to take," but there is actually God intervening in this situation. What I needed to is to be obedient to what God is allowing to be happened. This lesson from the Scriptures has been guiding me to be obedient to the Lord.
Please pray that I may be able to keep obeying to what God is telling me to do. Also please pray that I may be able to play the role of interim International Director in my unique way. Please pray for Setsu Shimizu as well. She resigned from the position of International Director; however, she uses her most of the time to raise her support by the end of this year as a JCFN staff worker. Finally, please pray for JCFN ministry especially during this season of change.


□What's Going on with Chihiro□■

Central Conference (May) and ec11 planning committee meeting (June) were held in guidance and blessings. It's during summer break in the US that JCFN is planning for the WIT leadership camp (July). Please pray that I would be a good resource for those who are involved in.

前回から間が開いてしまってのニュースレターになってしまって大変失礼しました。3月11日の東日本大震災の後、何にフォーカスするべきなのかを探られる1ヶ月以上を送っていました。今、私に任されていることを再認識し、神様の呼びかけに忠実に従うことの必要性を思わされた日々を過ごしていました。気を取り直して、これまでの歩みを振り返ります。


■2011. 3. 11■□

今、アメリカの地でできること、それが何であるのかを探られるときを3月11日以降過ごしてきています。直後よりも落ち着いてきているものの、日々神様に聞きながらのときが今も続いていると思います。インターネットのニュースで流される情報に目を留めながら、私の知っている日本の姿でなくなっている様子にショックを受け、「ここからどうなるのだろうか・・・」という問いが祈りとして常に心の中にある日々を過ごしています。そのような中で、「津波のあとで」という2004年にスリランカを襲った津波被害を受けた神学者アジス･フェルナンドの小冊子から励ましを受けました。どのように具体的に祈っていったらいいのかを教えられました。神様ご自身がこの状況で一番心痛められているということ、そして、神様に「どうして？」と問うてもいいということ、その基本的なことを教えられました。この未曾有の状態の中で神様の栄光が現されるようにと祈ります。

アメリカでできること、それは1にも2にも祈ることだと痛感させられています。これほど、アメリカにいて日本のことを遠く、同時に近く感じさせれることはありません。母の実家が福島だということで、それまでは「子どもの時に訪ねていた田舎」と思っていただけの場所が、あまりに身近に感じられて、執り成すときに涙を流すほどに変わりました。まるで、神様が心を私の内に植え付けてくださったようで、このきっかけが目覚ましのように感じられておます。留学している学生の中にも津波の被害を受けた地域出身の方がいます。様子を聞きながらまた身近に感じつつ祈らされます。確かに、3月11日が日本だけでなく、海外にも影響を与えています。日本のために執り成す人が起こされ、各地でチャリティーが行われています。これほどまでに日本が注目され、神様の御手があるように祈られてきた時はなかったように思います。全てにおいて神様の御心がなりますように。

□出前伝道□■

4月半ば、ロサンゼルスから北西2時間ほどのところにあるサンタバーバラという町に行ってきました。ロサンゼルスには日本人が多く在住しているので、日本人教会が数多くあります。そして、教会間の学生たちの交わりや、共にリーダーシップ訓練を受けたり、伝道したりする機会があります。ロサンゼルス市内から少し離れるサンタバーバラには日本人教会が1つだけですが、市内の大学には多くの日本人が留学しています。そこで、ロサンゼルスのクリスチャン学生たちで、サンタバーバラに応援に駆け付けようということになりました。総勢11名で日帰り小旅行に出かけてきました。サンタバーバラの教会では隔週の金曜日の夜にノンクリスチャン対象にした食事と交わりの時間を持っています。その日の合わせ、交わりに加えていただきました。プログラムもそのままロサンゼルスの学生たちがとりまとめ、食事・ゲーム・賛美・スモールグループ・メッセージの時間を持ちました。なかなか共通点のないサンタバーバラ組とロサンゼルス組ですが、大きな共通点は「日本から離れたところで震災を体験した」ということでした。その共通点をもとにスモールグループで分かち合いをしました。中でも、福島出身の学生（ノンクリスチャン）が分かち合ってくれたことが印象的でした。「家族の安否の不安、今は必要に関して皆が関心を持っているが、復興が進み、必要が満たされた時には、この時のことを忘れてしまうのではないか...。こんなことを思っていることすらも、身近の大学の友達にも言うことができなかった。話していいんだって思った...。」そのように語る彼女の姿を見て、今こそクリスチャンが隣に座り、話を聞き、共に祈ることができる特権と責任を感じました。海を越えて震災を体験した人たちへの「Ministry of Presence（存在を通してのミニストリー）」が求められているときだと感じています。今回の訪問をを通して、教団や教会、場所を超えた励まし合いの大切さを体験することができました。その体験を学生たちと分かち合うことができたことも祝福でした。引き続きサンタバーバラでの働きのために、またロサンゼルスのクリスチャン学生たちの成長のためにお祈りください。


■シアトル訪問■□

4月末、学生伝道ミニストリーのコンサルティングのためにシアトルに行ってきました。ここ数年の動きとして、東京と大阪にあるツーリズム専門学校の学生が10ヶ月間の研修を行い、その期間に複数の学生がクリスチャンになり帰国していくというサイクルができています。その大きなきっかけとなっているのが「JxJ（Jesus x Japan）」というミニストリーです。数年前に学生伝道に重荷を持った青年たちが教会を超え集まり、草の根の働きとして始まりました。毎月1回、学生たちを招いてゲーム、食事、賛美、証の時間を持っています。また、他の時間にも個人的に時間を過ごすようにしたり、バイブルスタディの時間を持ったりしています。関係を深めていくことで、キリストを分かち合っています。伝道をしている学生たちの一生懸命な姿や心に、神様が注いでいる熱心さを知り、かえってこちらが励まされました。毎年この時期にJxJのコア、サブコアメンバーが集まってビジョンの確認と今後の計画を立てています。今回、招かれて、「教会とミニストリーについて」と、「ミニストリーにおいての男女の関係について」という2つのトピックのセミナーを担当しました。総勢20名ほどが集まりました。学んだことをスモールグループに分かれて分かち合いました。今まで気づいてなかったこと、考えていなかったこと、また考えていたけれど口にできいなかったことを分かち合う良い機会になったようです。学びの後、ビジョンの確認、コミットメント（関わること）の確認、半年間の計画を立てる時間を持ちました。これまでを振り返り、何を続け、止め、改善し、新しく取り入れるべきなのかをグループ別れ話し合い、その中で取り組むべきことの優先順位をつけていきました。日頃、リーダーとのスカイプでのやり取りでのみ知っているJxJですが、実際に関わってい一人ひとりと出会っていく中で、神様が確かにこのミニストリーとシアトルでの福音宣教の働きを祝福してくださっていることを思いました。ミニストリーに関わっている人たちの多くは学生です。またJxJを通して救われた人たちも関わっています。ますます祝福されることを祈ります。

この機会にシアトルにある日本人教会、牧師を訪ねてきました。シアトルの特徴として、教会を越えた牧師たちの交わりがあることがあげられると思います。シアトルに複数ある教会が協力して神様の働きを進めていることに励ましを受けました。ますます、シアトルの地が祝福され、日本人の魂が救いに預かり、キリストの弟子として成長していくことができるように祈ります。


□今後のちひろの動き□■

お伝えした通り、3月半ばより、住まいをオフィスから車で10分ほどのところに移しました。4月より、事務主事が与えられました。他の2人の主事も第2児出産、また結婚と、大きな変化を迎えています。アメリカ主事会の中での大きな変化に伴い、私自身の働き方も変わってきています。どうぞ、神様の喜ぶ形で主にお仕えすることができるようにお祈りください。

After the devastating earthquake hit Japan on March 11, I have been thinking what I need to focus on. The time of reflection brought me the time to refocus on what God is calling me to do, and led me to be obedient to Him in everyday life. Here I would like to report on what I have been doing in my ministry these past few months.


■2011.3.11■□

"What can I do, being here in the States, God?" has been a big question to me since the earthquake in Japan on March 11. Hearing the news from internet and seeing the unseen scenery of Japan, I have been shocked and asking and praying, "What will happen to Japan?" In that situation, the small booklet of "After the Tsunami (or, Hurricane in some version)" was very helpful for me to learn how to pray. It was written by a theologian, Ajith Fernando who experienced Tsunami in Sri Lanka in 2004. I was really encouraged by this booklet and was reminded that God is the One who feels hurt the most to see this situation in Japan. Also I learned that it is OK to ask God why this is happening. Very basic things I learned, but it helped me a lot. I pray that God may be glorified in this devastating situation.

What I can do while being in the States is to pray. I have never felt that I am so far away from Japan geographically, and at the same time so close to Japan with my heart. My mother is from Fukushima. Before the earthquake, I recognized that Fukushima is my mother's hometown where I have been to in my childhood. But after this, I was changed to feel it really close and wept for it while I was interceding. It is almost like God's heart was imprinted into my heart. It is like the alert from God. There are students in the States from the areas hit by Tsunami. As I hear the details of what is happening in their area, I am led to pray for them and the areas. Certainly, "3.11" brought effects not only to Japan but also to the different places in the world. It raised intercessors for Japan and charity events in different places. There was no time that Japan has been in the spotlight and prayed over as much as right now. May the will of God be done in this.

This is the interview of the pastor of the church in Fukushima which experienced all of earthquake, Tsunami, and threat of radiation. It is only in Japanese, but I hope it gives you a picture the situation.


□Evangelism To Go□■

In the middle of April, I visited Santa Barbara which is a 2- hour drive Northeast from Los Angeles. In Los Angeles there are many Japanese people and quite a number of Japanese churches. There are opportunities for churches to do things together and for students to do ministry and have training together among churches in Los Angeles. However in Santa Barbara, there is only one Japanese church while there are many Japanese students. So, Japanese students in Los Angeles decided to visit Santa Barbara to encourage Japanese Christian students. 11 people from Los Angeles took a one-day trip to Santa Barbara. We joined their Friday night fellowship, which Santa Barbara Japanese Church holds every other Friday where they invite non-Christian students. Los Angeles team was in charge of the program and shared a meal, games, praise, small group time and message. There was no significant connection between us except that we are experiencing the aftereffects of the earthquake in Japan, while not in Japan. The topic of small group time was about what we are feeling about the things happening in Japan. I cannot forget what a female student from Fukushima was sharing, "I worry about how my family is doing, and everyone is concerned about the needs right now. But I wonder if we might forget things we experience now, once everything is recovered. I don't know it is even OK to talk about what I feel to my friends at school. But today, I knew that it's alright to talk about these things." Looking at her while sharing this, I realized the privilege and responsibility that we Christians have. We are able and ought to sit next to, listen, and pray together with those who are hurt. What I can do being away from Japan is "ministry of presence" for those who experienced this devastating situation being away from Japan. This one-day trip also reminded me of the importance of working and encouraging others together with the people from different churches, denominations, and locations. It was a blessing to share this experience with students. Please remember the ministry in Santa Barbara and the growth of Christian students in Los Angeles.


□Visiting Seattle□■

In the end of April, I had a chance to visit Seattle for student ministry consultation. For past several years, there were good cycles in Seattle. 10-month tourism students from Tokyo and Osaka study in Seattle, meet Christ, and return to Japan. One of the influences for those students is the student ministry called "JxJ (Jesus x Japan)." It started several years ago by Japanese young adults who have a heart for evangelizing to Japanese students. Once a month, they invite non-Christian Japanese students to a party and have time of games, dinner, praise, and testimony. Besides that, they try to get together with students and have Bible study and fun together. Building relationship with them, they introduce Christ. As I see their faces and heart reaching out to the students, I was encouraged by seeing God's heart in them. Each year around this time, the core and sub-core members of this ministry have annual meeting for reflection, evaluation and planning for upcoming year. This year, they invited me to teach 2 seminars of "church and ministry" and "gender in ministry." About 20 people attended this meeting and had a great time to share what they learned and are concerned about. After the seminars, they were divided into groups to discuss what they should continue, stop, develop and start in their ministry. Also they prioritized the topics for this coming year. I have been in monthly contact with the leader via Skype to reflect on what they have been doing. But it is totally different and valuable to see them face to face and think and pray together for the ministry. I definitely felt God's blessings on their ministry. Most of the people who are involved in JxJ are students, and those who are saved through JxJ also serve on the ministry team. I pray for more blessings on this.

I also had opportunities to visit different churches and pastors while I was staying in Seattle. One of the characteristics of the ministries in Seattle is that churches are close to one another and pastors from different churches have been well-connected. This must be an encouragement for each one of the churches, I believe. May the Lord bless the land of Seattle and more Japanese be brought to salvation and more Christians be equipped as Christ's disciples.


□What's Going on with Chihiro□■

As I wrote briefly, I moved my residence to the place 10-minute drive from the office. From April, US office staff member joined in the team. One ministry staff member had a birth of 2nd baby, and another ministry staff member gets married. In the midst of changes in US side, please pray for me that I can serve the Lord in the way He is delighted.

大震災から1ヵ月半が経過しました。まだ被害の実態の分かっていない地域があったり、避難所での生活が続いている地域があったりと、被災地での現状はいまだ厳しいものがあるという様子をニュースなどを通して聞いています。福島第一原発のすぐ近くにある教会は、地震・津波・原発の三重の被害から教会全体で非難を余儀なくされ、山形へ移動、4月からは東京の地で教会の家族による避難共同生活が始まったそうです。牧師の報告が教会ホームページに掲載されています。ぜひお読みください。

4月半ば、JCFNオフィスのあるアーバインから北西に車で2時間半程のところにあるサンタバーバラという町を訪れました。ロサンゼルス内では学生たちが教会を越えてミニストリーに関わる機会がありますが、その学生を中心に総勢11名がサンタバーバラにある日本人教会を訪ね、ノンクリスチャン学生たちへの伝道（関係作り）を目的とした隔週の集まりに参加しました。食事、自己紹介、ゲーム、賛美に続いて、スモールグループでの分かち合いの時がもたれました。その分かち合いのトピックの中心は、「震災について思うこと」でした。出身地が被災地の学生もいましたが、そうでなかったとしても、皆、自分の国・日本から離れたところで震災を体験し、改めて、震災後、そして今の心境を口に表す時間を持ちました。福島出身の学生が伝えてくれた一つの疑問がありました。「今は復興を必要として色々考えるけれど、いつか必要が満たされた時に、このときのことを忘れていってしまうのではないか・・・。」そんな疑問すら思ったり、口にしたりしていいのか分からずにいて、周りの友達にも話せないでいたということでした。皆、震災を前にして色々な思いの中にいます。しかし、それを話す場所がないでいるのだと、クリスチャンではない学生たちと接する中で知りました。クリスチャンの私たちにできることは「話を聞くこと」だと実感しました。いまこそ、それぞれに与えられた「場所」に留まり、聞くことのできるものでありたいと思います。日本の地でも、また、日本から離れているからこそ、聞いてもらうことの必要のある人たちがその場所を得られるように、そして、クリスチャンが「話せる場所」になっていけるように、ぜひ、一緒にお祈りください。
